Importing Spreadsheets & CSVs

Connect Excel (.xlsx) and CSV spreadsheets, auto-map columns to template placeholders, edit rows directly in the data grid, and handle nested items.

4 min read • Guide

Once your Word template is loaded, the next step is feeding it with data. Trydoku lets you connect Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx) or CSV files, automatically maps spreadsheet columns to your template variables, and gives you a high-performance in-browser data grid for instant edits.

Supported File Formats

Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)

Preserves column formatting, dates, currency signs, and handles multi-tab workbooks by letting you choose the target sheet.

Comma-Separated Values (.csv)

Standard UTF-8 or BOM-encoded CSV files exported from Google Sheets, Airtable, CRM systems, or internal databases.

Column Auto-Mapping

Trydoku automatically matches column headers with template variables using intelligent normalization:

  • Header Customer Name automatically maps to placeholder {{ customer_name }}.
  • Header INV_DATE automatically maps to placeholder {{ inv_date }}.
  • If a column name differs, you can manually re-assign the target variable using the column dropdown in the grid header.

In-Grid Editing & Sub-Item Grids

Need to fix a typo or add an extra record before generating? You don't have to go back to Excel. The Composer includes a full-featured data grid:

  • Direct Cell Editing: Double-click any cell or press Enter to edit values inline.
  • Keyboard Navigation: Use arrow keys, Tab, Enter, and paste (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V) to copy data directly from other spreadsheets.
  • Sub-Item Tables: For repeating invoice lines, click the nested grid icon on any row to open the sub-item modal and add line items.
  • Row Boundaries: The interactive data grid supports up to 500 rows per batch session directly in the browser.
